ULI Singapore and Arup, through the Center for Climate Action in Cities invited ULI members to register for a 4-module workshop on climate resilience and decarbonisation of the built environment.
Arup’s Centre for Climate Action in Cities (CCAC) programme drives knowledge creation, innovation partnerships and capacity building in energy, waste, circularity, climate adaptation and water. Supported by Singapore’s Economic Development Board, the CCAC leverages Arup’s expertise in sustainable development consultancy and network of partners to advance climate action in cities across Asia.

ULI Singapore x Arup CCAC Climate Resilience & Decarbonisation Workshop
Over 4 x full day sessions across the month of March, a cohort of 30 interdisciplinary ULI members came together to learn about climate resilience and decarbonisation from practitioners who are actively decarbonising Singapore’s real estate sector.
Although there is ample literature and commentary on this topic, this workshop was designed to help our members from various disciplines of real estate gain a shared understanding on
- sustainability factors that are directly pertinent to the built environment;
- how to select from the various assessment tools and financing options;
- how to design a pathway to decarbonisation; and,
- how each of us could drive the change from our respective roles.
The workshop comprised training from Arup’s panel of experts with guest speakers and contributors from real estate practitioners; curated to embrace the inter-disciplinary nature of ULI members, fostering a practical learning experience. ULI Singapore received the support from over 10 industry practitioners who volunteered their time and expertise for this meaningful initiative. In addition to these guest speakers from the industry, the workshop comprised over 20 trainers, content creators and facilitators from Arup.

On a scale of 1 – 5 in terms of overall satisfaction with 5 being very satisfied, the participants feedback yielded a rating of 4.8. Furthermore, in terms of how likely they would recommend the workshop to others on a scale of 1 – 5 with 5 being very likely, the collective rating was 4.8. When asked what they enjoyed most about the workshop, many shared the same views about the diversity of perspectives and the opportunities to learn from practitioners.

Above all, everyone agreed that the camaraderie formed between this cohort of ULI members was one of the great outcomes of this workshop.
Celebrating the completion of the workshop
With this strong support, ULI Singapore will plan to run this workshop again in due course with our ULI APAC Corporate Partner Arup.
