WLI Championing Change
WLI Champions of Change address gender bias and impediments of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at work.
The 2020 ULI Singapore Mentorship programme started in June 2020 when working from home was suddenly the default and events were heavily curtailed. The ULI Singapore mentors are not unfamiliar with managing global uncertainties and were instrumental in keeping the mentees focused on their professional development and career goals.
ULI Singapore will open up registrations for the 2022 ULI Singapore Mentorship Programme in early December. This programme is open to ULI members. For more information about the ULI Singapore Mentorship Programme, please email [email protected].

“The biggest surprise for me was how much chemistry we have and how quickly we connected. Sara gave me a lot of confidence to progress in my career. My advice for new mentees – Just do it! Mentorship manifests in many ways so keep an open mind, learn as much as you can and be appreciative of the time and effort given by the mentors.”

“I have been so pleased with how engaged Jennie is as a mentee. Over the course of the last year, Jennie has asked many interesting and poignant questions and I hope I have been able to guide her along the way as she thinks about what’s best for her and how she can continue to be a valuable member within the Watsons community. It’s been a pleasure to see her grow.”

“Mentoring Achmad Maulana over the year has been a very fulfilling experience – we have had many, many conversations, and over that time Achmad has made some very significant decisions about his future, and I am pleased to say that he is now enrolled in a very significant urban design programme at Columbia University in New York. That was a bold move but I sense that he is very happy. Achmad and I have agreed to continue our association into the future and I will definitely follow his evolving career with interest. He is smart and ambitious, and if along the way I have had a small part in shaping his thoughts, then I am happy too.”

“Often, when you have been in your career for so long, you get lost in what you want to do next or what your ultimate goal really is. Simon with his experience gave me step-by-step advice on finding myself and what I want to do, using a timeline framework and to set a specific goal. I was initially undecided about whether to further my studies. Simon helped crystallise this for me. I enrolled and have been accepted in Columbia University Masters in Urban Design program. I thought the ULI Singapore mentorship programme was just going to be a series of discussion about career opportunities but it turned out to be much more than that. I am glad I participated in this mentorship programme. I recommend this for anyone who wants to break out of their status quo. It’s worth it!”

“The ULI Mentoring Programme was a really fruitful and remarkable experience for me. I was fortunate and humbled to have Darren Sabom, a senior real estate investor and veteran, as my mentor. Throughout the year-long programme, he has been very personable and approachable. His authenticity and willingness to share his own experiences and lessons have provided me with a myriad of perspectives and insights. We have maintained contact even after the programme concluded, and Darren continues to encourage and inspire me to grow personally and professionally.”
